Artemis, the Greek goddess of wild animals, hunt, and vegetation was later worshiped by Romans as goddess Diana. Daughter of Zeus and the twin sister of Apollo, Artemis held an important role in the Greek pantheon. ‘’The Mistress of the Animals’’ would dance accompanied by nymphs in the mountains, forests, and marshes but would also serve as a fertility deity and a patron of young women.
